Picture: Paul Bennett. In a video, filmed by a bystander at the Asda branch in Merrielands Crescent, Dagenham, the two women are seen pulling item after item from underneath their abayas - traditional black robes worn by Muslims.
The clip shows the women removing various items, surrounded by members of the supermarket's staff. One then lifts up both her robe and the skirt she has on underneath to show she has no more concealed items - flashing her Dagenhwm in the process. A male voice can be heard saying: "You're not even Muslim, look at these lot. Take that the abaya off as. An Asda spokesman said: "We do not tolerate any form of shoplifting and work hard to deter shoplifters from our stores. Women caught hiding items under robes in apparent shoplifting attempt
Both women were wearing hijabs and black abayas, the headscarf and loose robe-like garment worn by some Muslim women. T he Asda employees can be seen covering their eyes and turning away as the woman walks towards the exit whilst holding up her black dress, leaving behind her a pile of around 20 discarded items. Her actions prompted several onlookers to question whether they were Muslim at all, with some saying no observant woman would either shoplift or expose herself in a similar manner.

If these women were Muslim and were attempting to shoplift they certainly should not be doing so. Both these acts, shoplifting and lifting up their dresses, go against what Muslims should be doing in the first place.
